Why local context changes everything
A standard ERP comes out of the box set up for a company in mainland France or elsewhere. In French Polynesia the currency is the Pacific franc, VAT has its own rules, payroll and social declarations go through local bodies, and your banks have their own exchange formats. Every gap left untreated becomes a re-entry, an error or a parallel spreadsheet.
Then there is geography. A team in Bora Bora or the Marquesas does not have the same connection as an office in Papeete. An integrator who has never deployed on an outer island plans for neither the slowness nor the outages.
The seven questions to ask before signing
These questions apply to Odoo as much as to any other ERP. Vague answers are a signal in themselves.
1. Which Polynesian companies have you already deployed, and can we call them?
2. How do you handle invoicing in Pacific francs and Polynesian VAT in the tool?
3. Are local payroll and social declarations covered, or handled on the side?
4. How does the ERP connect to our banks and existing tools?
5. Who trains our teams, for how long, and what happens after go-live?
6. Who answers when something blocks, in which time zone, and how fast?
7. Who owns the data, the specific developments and the configuration?
Odoo or another: the software is not the subject
Odoo is a frequent choice in Tahiti because it covers sales, purchasing, stock, invoicing and accounting in a single tool, with an open model that can be customised. Other ERPs suit depending on the company's history, sector or tools already in place.
The real question lies elsewhere: does your integrator know how to start from your actual process, then configure and connect the tool so that it fits? A perfectly installed ERP disconnected from your payroll and your bank removes no re-entry at all.
The stages of a rollout that holds
At devlab, an ERP project follows four stages, always in this order. Listen: we spend time with your teams and observe how the company really works. Quantify: we put a figure on what each pain point costs you, so the decision rests on facts. Integrate: we deploy and connect the tool to your reality (XPF, payroll, banks, existing tools). Support: we train, follow up and keep the tool evolving.
A rollout happens in visible stages, module by module, with real data from the start. A single big-bang switch on a Friday evening is the surest way to lose your teams.
What devlab does
devlab deploys and customises your ERP, Odoo among others, for Polynesian companies: sales, purchasing, stock, invoicing, document management. We connect it to your local reality and your tools, and we train your teams so that the tool is actually used.
We favour a monthly subscription to keep improving your tools over time, with no upfront investment. Purchasing is also possible when owning your solution is the priority, with a significantly higher initial budget and maintenance to plan for afterwards. Our AI agents connect to the ERP to use your sales, stock and invoices without double entry. The first 30-minute call is free.
